Nope, this is not a blog about Peter Pan, or indeed Star Trek(you geeks will get that reference)
In fact, it's a blog about charity, or more specifically, what I am going to do for charity. a few months ago, my friend Tracey McKee told me about a charity walk along the new section of the M74 motorway in Glasgow before it was opened to traffic and I thought that it would be a great idea. So I set up a Just Giving page and strapped on my new stylish yet affordable trainers and set off arm and arm with Miss McKee to walk 14.1 km. We struggled through wind and the occasional downpour and came in under 2 and a Half hours (2:26:20 to be exact), which us a personal best I can tell you. And all my fabulous friends helped me raise £160 for Cancer Research Uk, so kudos to you all.
And here comes the But,
But, it's not enough.
Not just the money, but the walking, cos I have got the bug, I need to do it more, and well I have. Walking too work, round work, home from work, you just can't stop me. My stylish yet affordable pedometer has me clocking up 16 km some days, and my stylish yet affordable trainers are taking a battering( shopping time yay).
So the walking has been great, it's helping me get fitter and shed a few pounds, and it's also been preparing me for my next big challenge.... The Shine Nightwalk. What is this? I hear you cry!!! Well it is a charity walk organised by Cancer Research UK where a big bunch of like minded idiots will attempt to walk a half marathon or a full marathon overnight in Glasgow. Not to do things by half of course I have opted in to do the full bloody thing, yes folks, this fat boy is gonna walk a marathon. Check the link below to find out more.

Here comes another But,
But to do this marathon, I am going to need help, and in help I mean sponsorship as I am aiming to raise £1000 for Cancer Research UK, so if you can spare a couple of pounds then it would be greatly appreciated, if you can give more then all the better as ever penny will go to the help the fight. And if you pass on my details to friends, families and colleagues it will help raise even more pennies, just click the link below, and to you all, thank you.

Why I love Melanie C
Now among other things, I am a Dj, a job I love and enjoy and have done so for many years. Am I any good? I like to think so, I get more compliments than complaints and I am known for playing the rather obscure sometimes which has gotten me stares and cheers alike.
But back to the point at hand, why do I love Mel C. Well, I have always loved the Spicegirls, they hit the charts when I was in high School and were with me throughout university and you know, their music was fun, it made folk dance and it made folk happy. But why Mel C out of the rest of them awesome girls? We though I love them all Mel C always stood out, whilst they were dolled up in Gucci and leopard prints they stuck Mel in a track suit, she was like the odd one out, and as a bigger man, gay, and a total geek I can relate to being that.
Also, she was by far the best vocalist in the band, or I feel so in my opinion, they all had there strengths but Mel could overpower them all.
Then as they grew older they followed solo projects and Mel came out with the sheer awesome 'Northern Star', it is one of my favourite albums of the nineties, fun songs, poignant songs, and some amazing crossing of genres from dance to r'n'b with the help of Lisa 'left eye'. Now Geri did great with her albums and I loved Emma's tuned but 'Northern Star' was a triumph far surpassing the pop that was around at the time.
Possibly one of the most defining moments was watching her first solo performance on Top of the Pops with "Going Down". She sang live, and though her vocals were shaky and the band often drowned her out you could tell with every word that she was enjoying what she did, she was living in that moment and making it her own. I always remember that moment and thought that's how I wanna be, I want to enjoy something so much I'll just do it, it's why I still dj after all these years, even if I do fluff up mixes or play something so outta here the kids have no idea what it is, but when even just one person comes up and thanks me for playing that obscure track, then it's made my night and I know my job is done.
All I can really say is thanks Mel, your a star.
